Moving Coil Cartridge with boron cantilever and Special Line Contact stylus construction
The newly developed Thorens "TAS 1600“ cartridge is a Japanese-made low output MC that was specially developed for the THORENS TD 1600 and TD 1601. With an output voltage of 0.4 millivolts at 5.5 cm/s, it delivers sufficient levels to harmo-nize with common phono preamplifiers. With an internal resistance of 12 ohms, it feels in good hands at a terminating resistor of >100 ohms. At the end of a massive boron cantilever sits a fine diamond with a line-contact cut, which elicits every musical fineness of the record groove.

Amelia ★★★★★

The fine line contact stylus really brings out inner detail on my classical LPs without adding any harshness to the top end. I’m hearing harmonics and textures in the string sections that my old cart simply glossed over. Setup was straightforward for a low-output MC and it’s been dead quiet through

Nicholas ★★★★★

The boron cantilever tracks so effortlessly that surface noise just disappears from records I thought were worn out. It's pricey, but the clarity on orchestral passages makes it worth every cent.

Riley P. ★★★★★

The line contact stylus really digs into the grooves, and the boron cantilever keeps things light and fast without any harshness. I’ve had it on my table for a week now, and the low output is so quiet you just get pure music.
